Film study of new Houston signee Ikenna Alozie

Ikenna Alozie committed on Tuesday, November 18th, and signed with Houston shortly after. He announced his decision on Friday on CBS Sports Network. The 6’2″ combo guard from Dream City Christian in Arizona chose the Cougars over Alabama and Grand Canyon.

The GoCoogs basketball team has spoken to several coaches about Alozie. One compared him to a young Jamal Shead. He said Alozie is moldable into the type of guard Houston produces.

Ikenna Alozie

  • 6’2″, 185 lbs, #27 Player (ESPN), #6 Ranked Combo Guard;
  • Dream City Christian – Glendale, Arizona

Offense

  • Super bouncy athlete!
  • Elite in transition offense; Does a great job pushing the ball out when he leads a fast break to get up the floor quickly;
  • Really good at creating for himself and shooting the mid-range, and solid on the dribble pull-up.
  • Excellent at finishing with his right hand at the rim;
  • Does a nice job getting into the paint to draw fouls;
  • Nice elevation on his jumper;
  • Solid outside shooter.

Defense

  • Active hands on defense;
  • Solid on-ball defender.

Areas of Opportunity

  • Tighten up his ball handling;
  • He’s more of a slashing guard instead of point guard and does a great job getting to the basket.
  • He will see a different defensive intensity in the Big 12. Coach Hollis Price will get him right!
