Thigpen committed on Saturday. Ewell, Lane, Martin, Morgan, Mosley, and Guidry have OVs set up May 28-30.

A few notes

Springtown linebacker Rome Ewell got to campus early so he could sit in on position meetings and get a tour of the facilities. I spoke with his dad about how the process was going, and he said they were “impressed with the facilities.” He almost mentioned that Houston is in a good spot with Rome at the moment, along with a few other Big 12 teams.

Ewell has an official visit scheduled with Houston for May 28-30 and two others at a later date: Kansas State and Iowa State. I was told he wants to decide before his senior season. Ewell is aiming to be a spring enrollee and looks forward to getting started. “He likes to work,” his dad said.

Atascocita wide receiver Brian Manuel Jr. also attended position meetings before watching practice. He told me he attended kickoff, punt return, and wide receiver meetings. Houston has yet to offer Manuel, but he is a player to keep an eye on.

A coach in Manuel’s district told me that he believes Manuel is underrecruited due to the depth of talent in 23-6A (Summer Creek’s Benny Easter and CE King’s Dillon Mitchell, to name a few). Manuel had a productive junior season: 1,059 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games. He can also make highlight plays like this:

Former UH wide receiver coach Derrick Sherman, now in the same role at Iowa State, offered Manuel this week.
