Before every home game, Houston Cougar Basketball players will sit in the first row or on the visitor’s bench and see how many shots they can make. J’Wan Roberts is the king of the sideline seated shot. Walking behind the visitor’s bench prior to the SMU game, I looked up just in time to see him make one from about 32′. So I walked over behind him to film it, hoping he’d make another:
But Jamal Shead stole his thunder. J’Wan claims he got “nervous” with an iPhone recording him but never gets nervous when millions watch him play every season. Weird!
Most UH players love the seated shot competitions; several do it before every game and sometimes during practice, too. Reggie Chaney, Jarace Walker, Marcus Sasser, Shead, Roberts, and Emanuel Sharp routinely take part, usually around 30-35 minutes before tipoff. It’s pretty competitive.
After the SMU game, Shead and Sharp each announced NIL deals with Gallery Furniture.
On Friday after practice, Jamal Shead spoke to the media about Cincinnati, him moving up the UH assist charts, student managers, and other softballs. After he was finished, GoCoogs asked him hard-hitting questions.
As of the time of publishing (9:30 a.m. on 1/8/2023), at least five Kelvin Sampson bobbleheads have been listed on eBay, with four selling between $60-100. A fifth remains priced at $125.
If that seems like a ridiculous price, don’t fret! You can also get a Kelvin Sampson signed autographed Houston Cougars Nationals Champs wood flooring sample (“floorboard”).
But honestly, if you have $125 to spend on a bobble head or $97 on a signed flooring sample, perhaps we could interest you in sponsoring HOUNIL.com Athletes. We’d find you a bobble head, too. 🙂
