Willie Fritz discussed several subjects on Wednesday afternoon media availability. He noted that his current roster included 77 returning players and will include 39 new players: 20 transfers and 19 high schoolers, of which nine are already on campus. No one was signed on Wednesday’s signing day.
Wille said Spring Football will begin on March 17, just after Spring break. The team will meet and lift on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays while practicing on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The spring game will be on April 19.
When talking about new offensive linemen, he said his staff uses the first two weeks of spring camp to familiarize them with their “home base” position. Then, starting in the third week, they will work on identifying versatile players who can play another position.
He expects Zeon Chriss and Caleb McMickle to be ready for spring practice. The Tulane transfer, Corey Platt, will be close to full strength by March 17, but they will not rush him.
In discussing freshmen midyear enrollees, Fritz said the staff usually knows by the end of spring if they’ll be able to contribute in the fall.
