UH shutdown Cincinnati in the second half en route to their 25th win of the season. The 71-53 win also clinched Houston’s third American Athletic Conference regular-season title in the last four years.

The championship is Kelvin Sampson’s 11th in 33 years as a head coach.

Fabian White Jr. scored a career-high 28 points and had 10 rebounds, the game-high in both categories, and was taken out to a huge round of applause with 1:12 left. Josh Carlton added 15 points and nine boards.

After a back-and-forth first half, UH led by just a point before Taze Moore’s long-distance heave swished as the halftime buzzer sounded. The Cougars clamped down in the final 20 minutes, holding Cincinnati to just 19 points on just 7/25 shooting (28%).

Houston once again dominated on second-chance points, outscoring the Bearcats 18-6. The five starters scored all 71 points for the Coogs as the UC bench outscored Houston’s, 24-0.
