Cougar Football turns its sights to Cincinnati

After an overtime win against Baylor in Waco, UH Football moves forward Monday with preparations for Homecoming vs. Cincinnati. Dana says this week is about getting to 5-5.

UH is a staggering 125th nationally in FG percentage (50%). Jack Martin’s struggles have been from 40 or longer (3/9 from 40+). He’s 3/3 inside of 40. I asked Dana Holgorsen about it on Monday and how it could change his offensive philosophy.

“Jack’s been consistent inside 40,” Dana said. “He’s been inconsistent outside the 40. That’s just what the results are, and, you know, this is a results-driven business as far as how you make decisions.

“That 30-to-40-yard mark, you know, we’re going probably be a little bit more aggressive.”

Kicks of 40+ have been a struggle for the Coogs for two seasons. Last year, Bubba Baxa and Kyle Ramsey combined to go 1/5 from 40+. This season, at Abilene Christian, Ramsey is 10/10 from 40+ including 4/4 from 50+.

Joseph Manjack IV and Jamal Morris are expected back Saturday, and Matthew Golden should play, too. Manjack has missed two games in concussion protocol, Morris had a lower back issue, and Golden hurt his foot on a catch at Baylor.

I also asked about Treylin Payne, who made his second career start on Saturday. Dana was effusive in his praise for Payne:
