March 8th Seedology (Updated From Wednesday)

Let’s be real: the tourney is interesting but we care about the Coogs. That’s why I focus on seedology and not bracketology.

After a couple days of games in conference tournaments, not much has changed for UH really. The American tourney will get underway tomorrow morning with all games on ESPNU. The Cougars will play Friday night at 8 p.m. against the winner of ECU/UCF. Each successive game would be at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

My prediction for the Coogs is still the same on Thursday morning as it was early in the week. I think we are still a 5-seed. That will come if/when the Cougars win 2 games and advance to the league title game on Sunday as I expect.

Ok – Here’s updated stats on the Coogs:

24-6 record
14-4 in AAC
7-5 on the road
RPI: NCAA has us at 19 (but ESPN has us at 20)
Conference RPI: 12
Conference SOS: 83
Non-Conference RPI: 38
Non-conference SOS: 243
2-2 vs Top 25
6-2 vs Top 50
Strength of Schedule: 106
Opponents’ SOS: 11
Last 12 games: 10-2
14th in Adjusted Scoring Margin

Conference RPI and Non-conference RPI have both gone down and conference SOS has gone down 10 spots. Some sites are now predicting a little worse seed for the Coogs. On the flip side, RPI remains steady. How long? I’m not sure. But we could use some help.

Bracket Matrix Project still has UH as a 6-seed in their consensus bracket. Every bracket has UH between a 4-seed and an 8-seed.

Is it weird to be disappointed when you see UH as an 8-seed? We’ve come a loooong way, y’all.

We all watched Alvin and Clyde, and RayMc, and Dickey tear this program down. Now we are watching the league coach of the year.

I mean……we’ve come a loooooooooooooong way, y’all.

Other Brackets

The USA Today bracket still has us as a 6 and still playing MTSU in Dallas.

ESPN has downgraded the Coogs to a 7-seed and has us going to Nashville to playing Saint Mary's which would be brutal.

Who We're Watching

At this point let's make it simple: let's focus on the teams we've beaten OOC that are still alive and can help our RPI.

UNO - beat TAMU-CC Wednesday and plays SHSU today at 5 p.m.
Prairie View - plays Fiday night vs TSU
LSU - plays tonight vs Mississippi State
Providence - plays Creighton this afternoon
Arkansas - plays tonight South Carolina
Saint Louis - plays tonight vs George Washington

In the American, it's best if the top 4 seeds advance to Saturday. Til then, just don't need USF, ECU, or Tulane pulling any funny business.
