Houston flies to Cincinnati Saturday afternoon for a 2 p.m. game on Sunday at the Bearcats’ Fifth Third Arena. Games at UC have always been challenging for Houston: The Cougars are just 2-17 in away games against the Bearcats. Both of those wins have come since 2019.
UH won last year’s game at Fifth Third, 80-58, shooting 54%. Houston is 6-1 in the series since 2019, with those six wins coming by an average of 19 ppg.
Head coach Kelvin Sampson, point guard Jamal Shead, and All-American Marcus Sasser expect nothing like the last three years. The Cougars are not as experienced as before and they see this Cincinnati program improving.
Sampson was also asked about playing freshmen in games like this, and he referred to his history of dealing with freshmen in big games. He was also asked about the quick turnaround between the SMU and Cincinnati games.
