The University of Houston debuted Memorial Hermann as the named sponsor of the new football operations building on YouTube Friday morning. Groundbreaking on the Memorial Hermann Football Operations Center is scheduled to take place when the current football season concludes.
Under the terms of the agreement, Memorial Hermann will have naming rights to the new facility and the Athletics/Alumni Center. The health system also committed to supporting scholarships for student-athletes. Athletics Director Chris Pezman says the sponsorship “comes at a great time as we join the Big 12 and break ground on our facility at the end of the 2023 season.”
The new ops building will add 14 new suites and an additional 450-seat club section with access to the 11,000 SF club and 300-seat roof terrace facing into TDECU Stadium. The AAC building will be modernized to support Olympic sports, which will gain more space as the football program moves out. Pezman says they expect 70,000-80,000 more square feet for Olympic sports just from football’s move. He says they plan to open up the floor plan upstairs and will improve some of the public-facing areas, such as the indoor track.
“Our partnership with the University of Houston is part of our commitment to serving everyone who calls Houston home,” said David L. Callender, MD, President and CEO of Memorial Hermann. “We are thrilled to be part of UH’s athletic journey and can’t wait to celebrate its accomplishments on and off the field.”
