Earlier this week, the Cougars extended an offer to Pasadena Rayburn’s imposing defensive end, Je’lin Samuels. Samuels is a physical freak – 6’7″ and 225 lbs – and is just starting to get noticed by recruiters due to circumstances beyond his control.

It’s been a whirlwind week for Samuels – he’s received all four of his FBS offers in the span of about 24 hours. He announced his UH offer early Wednesday morning. At lunch that day, he was offered by SMU, and by dinner, he had an offer from UTSA. Wyoming was the first FBS school to offer (Tuesday night). There is some thought at Rayburn that UT is close to making an offer as well.

The eye-popping play below is one of several that has recruiters salivating. Fighting through a double-team, knocking another player down, and escaping to chase and bring down the QB.

He is not currently rated by 247 or Rivals likely due to playing JV last season. But ESPN has given him four stars and rates him as the #42 defensive end in the 2021 class. ESPN says he’s the #61 player in Texas.

I asked Samuels about the Cougars and his recruitment. He said Coach Zac Etheridge has been on him. “I definitely feel the love man from the (UH) coaches,” Samuel wrote. “But I also know that this ain’t no fun and games and that this is a business.”

He also said, “I’m just ready to work.”
