In this edition of the Cougar History Project, former UH OL Mike Wharton (’82, ’84) discusses his impressions of Coach Bill Yeoman and legendary head trainer Tom Wilson. Coach Yeoman served as head football coach from 1962 until 1986, winning four Southwest Conference titles along the way.

The colorful Wilson was UH’s trainer from 1953 until 1993, serving under six head coaches, and was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame in 1978. He passed away the day before the 2012 football season began.

This is a wide-ranging oral history of UH athletics as told by former athletes, coaches, & staffers. Over the next 18 months, the Cougar History Project expects to conduct over 100 of these interviews in order to preserve this part of our shared history.
