Offensive Depth Chart: Are There Enough Balls To Go Around?

A quick look at the offensive depth chart that was released earlier today. Not too many surprises but definitely some things to look forward to:

Joseph Manjack IV is listed alongside Sam Brown at the X receiver spot – it’s the only “or” on the depth chart. Dana Holgorsen has loved Sam Brown all camp, but Manjack has been coming on. Manjack is also listed as the back-up at the Y spot. I think he will be on the field for a ton of snaps in San Antonio.

Matthew Golden has been penciled into the starting Z receiver since the final week of spring ball. The coaches love him and think he’s going to see a lot of balls in his direction this year.

Dana continued his trend of 12 offensive starters on the depth chart, meaning one of Manjack, Dell, Golden, Carter, or Trahan won’t “start.” Obviously, that won’t be Dell.

Ta’Zhawn Henry will start at RB, but Brandon Campbell will get plenty of snaps. Stacy Snead’s name has also come up quite a bit all fall, too. I think you’ll see some fun packages for all three.

Holman Edwards has been named the #2 starter. The rumblings on this have been there for a few weeks, and Dana confirmed today that Holman had been very good running the offense the last 10 days. From the first day of camp, I had a hunch he might be more involved this year but I didn’t expect him to get the backup spot in game #1.

But more than just as a backup in 2022, does this give him a mini-headstart on QB1 (I hate this term) for 2023? He’s already the most famous man ever from French Camp, Mississippi (population 272) – could he be the guy that leads Houston onto the field in the Big 12? It would be great to see him get some game time in these four non-conference games.

Reuben Unije is listed as the starter at right tackle, but I think you’ll see Lance Robinson get some snaps there vs. UTSA. The entire offense hinges on the production out of the RG spot and I suspect the Roadrunners will attack it all afternoon.
