The offense names their best under-the-radar players

Last week, GoCoogs.com asked over 25 UH players who is an under-the-radar player that fans may not know about. We published defensive players’ answers earlier in the week.

Today, it’s the offense:

Maliq Carr (TE): I think this whole team is under the radar, so it’s hard to kind of really say. But if I had to say, it probably is Mekhi (Mews). I don’t think that many people know about him. Yes, he came from a bigger program but he was kind of in the shadow of some bigger dogs there. I think this year he’ll show a lot more people that somebody of his height can still do damage on the football field.

Maliq looked over to Mekhi: I called you short. I gave you a compliment, but I called you short.

Joseph Manjack IV (WR): Marquis Shoulders. I don’t know how much people know of him coming from Tulsa. He’s a new receiver in our room, but I’d say he’s going to be the under-the-radar that catches a lot of people this year.

Mekhi Mews (WR): Anthony Gangi. That’s my guy. Each day, he comes ready to work, every single day. He puts the effort, he brings the intensity to the room as well. He brings an aspect to the room that we really need. Anthony Gangi for sure.

Marquis Shoulders (WR): Devan Williams. I came from Tulsa with him. I feel like he’s very a underrated guy as well. Both of us didn’t get to finish our full year last year. I feel like we had a lot more to show, and so I feel like you could see a lot of big things from him.

Jayden York (TE): (Ponders) … I’ll give you one from every room.

The tight end room – our freshman Traville Frederick Jr.
The receiver room – the freshman receiver Koby Young.
The O-line room – Cayden Bowie. Cayden Bowie, plays guard.

What have you seen from Cayden Bowie? I like his physicality. I like how he comes off the ball. He’s kinda like that little crazy o-lineman that everyone needs on their line, but he’s still locked in. He doesn’t care, he loves football, and he’s not afraid to hit.

Quarterback room – all of them but I like Ui. Ui. Since I’ve been here, I’ve been a big fan of Ui.

Running back room – Re. Re’Shaun Sanford. Everybody’s gonna see when Re touches that field when he finally gets on that field. Re’s the real deal. Everybody in that running back room is the real deal, but I’m excited to see Re.

Jonah Wilson (WR): I’m gonna give it to the young guys. Koby Young and JayShon Ridgle.

Devan Williams (WR): I’d say the freshman Koby Young. He’s explosive. He’s quick. Everybody in the room who’s matured and actually played the game, we’re all in his ear, helping him be better, understand the game, and bring more knowledge to his game. So I think he’s definitely an under-the-radar receiver who’s gonna show what he can do.

Parker Jenkins (RB): In the running back room, I’d have to say Re’Shaun. He didn’t get to play last year because of a major injury, but once he gets back on the field, people will know who #26 is. It’s his quickness. One of the quickest people I’ve ever seen. He kind of relies on the space of Stacy, but just a smaller bolt of energy. Literally. He can go from one angle to another quick and you won’t be able to see him. We always joke about how twitchy he is, but he kind of gets used in the receiver room as well and at the returner spot. I know most definitely they’re gonna put him back there in the kickoff return team.

I was just talking about being used in the pass game and it’s a challenge when you have guys like that who are twitchy who are running backs, but also have that body composition to move to slot and be able to be twitchy and use that as their threat.

Tony Mathis Jr (RB): Definitely Re. Re had got injured last fall camp. I feel like he’s going to be a shocker to the world. He has the ability to be great. He’s fast and his ability to get up and get down than everybody else’s. You can’t really coach that. It comes natural. I can’t wait to see him in the future.

Stacy Sneed (RB): Re. Re’Shaun. Because last year he got hurt, he was a freshman, and fans don’t know what he can do, but we know what he can do. We’ve seen it. Put him anywhere on the field – kick-return, receiver, running back – he can do it all.

Donovan Smith gave such a long answer, we included it in video form:
