Watch: signee Kordel Jefferson after the SMU game

Kordel Jefferson, the 6’3″ Arlington Martin star that signed with the University of Houston in November, watched the SMU game Thursday night from section 215, just above the Cougar bench. Kordel agreed earlier in the day to chat with GoCoogs after the game.

Like every player in the UH program, he was ‘yes sir’ this and ‘no sir’ that and was accommodating and pleasant. And once again, I was left with the impression that Kelvin Sampson values character just as much as he values grinding on defense or competing for 40 minutes.

Some of Kordel’s answers were short, but he was unbothered speaking to a reporter he’d never met. He’ll get better at it, for sure, and will be a pro at media work before his first season is up. Jefferson is staunchly pro-UH and ‘recruits’ for the Coogs on social media, telling me he prefers Instagram to Twitter.

UH staffers and assistants say Kordel (“it’s Kordelius,” he tells me, “but they call me Kordel”) is a tough and scrappy combo guard that loves working on the defensive end. With his attitude and mentality, it’s clear he will be the next Dallas guard that stars at Houston.

During our conversation, Jarace Walker made a cameo appearance.
