UH Wins The Border Olympics For The 24th Time

Cougar Men’s Golf won the 2022 Border Olympics, beating second-place Louisiana Tech by 15 shots. Houston shot 852 (-12) and was under par all three rounds at Laredo Country Club.

Alexander Frances became the 16th Cougar to win the individual championship. He shot 69-70-70 and beat teammate Andrew Gibson on the second playoff hole. Frances has finished in the top-10 in the tournament three times.

Playing in the group ahead of Gibson, Frances birdied the first and second holes Tuesday and took the lead on the 3rd, despite making bogey. Trailing by two at the turn, Gibson came from behind with birdies at 14 and 15 to get to -7. After a bogey at the short par-3 14th dropped him to -6, Frances birdied #16 to pull even again.

Both made par on the first playoff hole and Frances won it with a par on the second.

The Border Olympics is the longest-running collegiate golf tournament in the U.S., having been played since 1952. UH’s first-ever team title came at the 1955 Border Olympics. The 2022 title became UH’s 24th Border Olympics trophy and 387th team title.
