Houston running back Alton McCaskill will enter the transfer portal on Wednesday. He is perhaps UH’s biggest transfer loss in the portal era and certainly the biggest since D’Eriq King left after Dana Holgorsen’s first year.

McCaskill missed the 2022 season after an ACL injury last spring. He was held out of most action this spring and never went live and never took a hit.
Sources in and around the football program said that McCaskill alerted Holgorsen to his plans on Monday. McCaskill apparently made the decision over the weekend.
McCaskill ran for 961 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2021, his freshman season. He also caught 21 passes and had two receiving TDs. McCaskill ran behind the same five starters on the offensive line in all 14 games.
In 2023, UH will use a patchwork OL after seven linemen have left in the portal since December.
In an early April media availability, Alton said, “the sky is the limit” for this group of UH running backs led by him, Stacy Snead, and Brandon Campbell.
“Our running back room group is actually…we’re solid. I always say we’re the most reliable group, best group on the field.
“I think we can be one of the best running back groups in the nation.”
Sources suggest McCaskill’s landing spot will be “interesting.” Colorado and Miami are interested.
