GoCoogs.com has two sources that confirm that Brian Early has accepted an offer to return to Houston to coach the defensive line again. Head coach Willie Fritz called Early on Wednesday to start the ball rolling, and the two met Thursday morning to hash out a deal. Barring any sudden changes, he will be back on the sideline for UH for his sixth year in 2024.

Fritz intended to bring in a coach from Tulane, but that fell through earlier this week. Fritz then pivoted to Early, calling him home and offering a Thursday meeting.

Early came to Houston in 2019 from Arkansas State alongside defensive coordinator Joe Cauthen. Early’s DL unit was easily the most consistent in the Dana Holgorsen era.

There’s no definitive word on whether this changes the portal situation for Chidozie Nwankwo or Jamaree Caldwell. Caldwell has had prominent P5 suitors contact him; several have conducted in-home visits. Both players are getting substantial NIL offers, too.

Last week, GoCoogs reported that Eman Naghavi would stay at UH as offensive line coach. He served in the same role for Fritz at Tulane in 2022.
