Recruiting+ Spotlight: 2027 CB Kameron Roberson

Cy Springs’ Kameron Roberson will be on campus this weekend as UH hosts its first round of official visits.

Roberson is a consensus four-star cornerback, and his tape confirms his ranking. The Coogs offered last June and have been pursuing him heavily ever since. The coaching staff locked on him while recruiting his former teammate and current Coog, Paris Melvin Jr.

Since arriving in Houston in December, cornerbacks coach Marcus Trice has built a solid relationship with Roberson.

“I hear from Coach Trice like every day. He texted me not too long ago, asking me just how everything is going,” Roberson said in a Monday-night interview with GoCoogs. “He always makes sure he checks in and asks how the fam’s doing, stuff like that. So, I hear from him pretty much every day.”

Roberson said he appreciates Trice’s attention to detail and the way that he emphasizes and reiterates those details. Talking with him, it’s clear that Roberson himself cares a lot about the intricacies that go into playing his position.

Roberson on the field

Recruiting the cornerback position requires projection. When you watch a player, you’re looking for movement skills and fluidity and trying to envision a translation to college. With Roberson, you don’t have to imagine it.

His highlight film shows him in press man, jamming and mirroring receivers off the line of scrimmage. That trait in itself stands out, and it’s what Roberson considers to be his greatest strength. He looks comfortable playing on the outside and playing physically.

“I feel like there’s a lot of corners that say they can press but…it comes natural to me,” Roberson said. “So I feel like that’s my strong suit, and also, me being as fast as I am, definitely helps. So I feel like definitely my press man ability and my speed, probably my two strongest factors on the field.”

Roberson was part of a state-champion 4×100 relay team as a sophomore and finished second this past track season. His speed pairs well with his press-man skills. He knows that if he has a misstep at the line or a receiver gets free, he has the closing speed to prevent a big play.

He is working to improve his patience after the snap. Roberson trusts his film study and is anxious to break on a route, rather than trusting his ability and staying in phase with the receiver.

Roberson’s coverage ability is top-notch. He has a very good frame (6’1”, 185 pounds) to pair with his athletic ability. I think he has the potential to become the kind of player who can follow the opponent’s best receiver each week and shut them down.

The OV

This weekend’s official visit to Houston will be the first that Roberson’s grandmother can attend. She is making the drive in from Monroe, Louisiana, where Roberson is originally from. How the staff connects with his family will be important in his final decision.

Houston has the chance to get a commitment with a strong showing during his official visit. Roberson says every program he is visiting has an equal chance.

Roberson will be looking to announce his future home on July 4.

OV Schedule:

Northwestern – May 8-10
Houston – May 28-30
Vanderbilt – June 4-6
Iowa State – June 8-10
Kentucky – June 12-14
