2020 is UH’s 75th Football Season

“From nothing, the University was “poor boyed” to its present respectable position. I am now firmly convinced that with proper leadership the University of Houston can achieve recognition as the best school of its type in the nation.

In 2020, the Cougars will play their 75th season of intercollegiate football. To date, the Cougars boast 11 conference championships, (soon to be) 4 College Football Hall of Fame members, a Heisman, a Lombardi, an Outland Trophy, and 445 wins.

From early on, UH Football has been about innovation: indoor football in the Astrodome, Bill Yeoman’s Veer-T, breaking the color barrier in Texas, the most points in modern college football, the touchdown dance, bringing the Run N Shoot to Division I-A football, and more.

GoCoogs will celebrate UH’s 75 seasons with special content, interviews with Cougar legends, and more. Today, we look back at UH’s first SWC game, which happened on this day in 1976.
