Keys To Victory
- Limit Filipowski. He’s really good. To limit him, you have to force him to take contested shots from outside. He’s a mismatch nightmare that can score from anywhere. Communication will be key when the “MONSTER” double-team heads his way.
- No open three-pointers for their guards. Proctor, McCain, and Roach can all knock down open three-point shots. The Coogs must force them to score off the bounce and limit their open three-point looks.
- Get paint touches. Get the ball to Jamal and get out of his way. Let him look to go iso and get the ball in the paint, looking to score first and kick out to LJ and Emanuel for open three-point shots if the defense collapses.
- Availability is KEY. THE COOGS CAN NOT GET IN FOUL TROUBLE VS DUKE!!! You don’t have to block every shot. You don’t have to reach to steal every time they dribble. Just try to affect their shots by making them shoot over your length. Stay in front of them when they drive and keep your arms “out, not in.” UH needs their key guys in the game as much as possible against a skilled team like Duke.
- Bully them. I think Duke is “soft”. The Coogs must be the first on the floor for a loose ball, take the big charge, own the offensive glass, and be pests to their guards. These are all things that Houston’s “culture” is built on.
