Kelvin Sampson: My dad told me what I needed to hear

Kelvin Sampson’s team is picked #2 in the Big 12, and they have high expectations internally. But the team is embracing the challenge: they have been hyper-competitive in the preseason, and the staff really likes the roster they’ve built.

But before we get to the hoops, another installment of GoCoogs’ exclusive interview with Kelvin Sampson. Here, he discusses his first coaching influence, his father, John Willie “Ned” Sampson. “My dad was the most common sense, never over-react wisdom,” Kelvin said last Monday. “I appreciate his wisdom.”

Mr. Ned passed away in February 2014.
