UH beats #10 Florida State in Tallahassee

Bill Yeoman’s team scored the first four times they possessed the ball, going up 27-0 over #10 Florida State before winning it 27-21.

Houston scored on drives of 65, 41, 74, and 79 yards to stun the home crowd at Doak Campbell Stadium. FSU made a QB change and scored just before the half to make it 27-7. FSU scored twice in the third quarter, but with about three minutes to play, a holding call negated a would-be tying score. Houston survived.

“Our boys are a much better team than the one that played Memphis State two weeks ago. We are starting to put it together,” Yeoman declared.

“I think we came of age tonight, especially when Florida State adjusted in the second half. But maybe now some folks will start taking notice of us, too.”

FSU was the first of four top-10 wins in 1978 as Houston won its second Southwest Conference title.
