New Houston quarterbacks coach Mike Burchett and assistant head coach and running backs coach Mike Jinks met with a small group of beat reporters on Monday. Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Kris Gardner of Houston Roundball Review/Folks Talkin’ Sports, and GoCoogs.com were the only media members present for the session.
Burchett did not spill much information on the QB battle between Donovan Smith and Lucas Coley. GoCoogs reported earlier Monday that some players believe Smith is now the guy. He also discussed new QB Ui Ale, play-calling, and how run game coordinator Eman Naghavi is being incorporated into the offensive structure. Coach Jinks talked about several of his backs, including a season-ending injury and a declaration that a true freshman will play this year.
