Houston beats the crap out of Texas A&M. Literally.

Today in 1983, Texas A&M mascot Reveille IV was caught on camera by a Daily Cougar photographer pooping at midcourt during halftime of the Houston/A&M game.

The #8 Cougars crushed Texas A&M at G. Rollie White, 86-66. Phi Slama Jama won their 13th straight game, improving to 18-2 and 9-0 in the conference. UH had won eight of nine SWC games by 15 points or more.

It was the biggest home loss for the Aggies since 1966. The Coogs shot 35/65 (53.8%) and 16/19 from the line.

“It just shows how good we are,” Clyde Drexler said. “We have an awesome team.”

Akeem Olajuwon blocked four of the first five Aggie five shots in the game despite a directive from Guy V. Lewis to shy away from blocks early so as not to get into foul trouble.

“On defense, I like to block shots,” Akeem said. “He told me not to do that early, but I did anyway.

“Sometimes when I block a shot, I know it’s goal tending but I want to make the shooter change his shot.”

Michael Young had 20 points and 11 boards, while Drexler scored 20. Akeem finished with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

“That’s the best I’ve ever seen Houston play here,” A&M coach Shelby Metcalf said. “It may be the best I’ve seen them play ever.

“This afternoon, the Houston Cougars could have beaten the Houston Rockets. I’m serious.”

Moments before the First Lady of Aggieland left it all on the floor, Guy V. had his own hardwood issues. He was given a technical for throwing gum onto the court.

It was Juicy Fruit.
