Houston ran through Maryland on January 1, 1977, to win its first Cotton Bowl. The Coogs got 21 first-quarter points from running backs Dyral Thomas and Alois Blackwell, thanks to a missed kick by Maryland, and a blocked punt and a fumble recovery from Mark Mohr.
