Houston led by three at the break but opened the second half on a 17-4 run as the Huskies hit just two of their first 13 shots. Armoni Brooks hit a pair of three-pointers, and Corey Davis scored five during the run.

“We weren’t ready at the start of the second half for how they were going to bring it,” UConn coach Dan Hurley said.

The Houston bench was the game’s story, outscoring the Huskies 42-9. Five bench players combined to shoot 16 of 20: Jarreau was 6/10, while Chris Harris (4/4), Brison Gresham (3/3), Cedrick Alley (2/2), and Nate Hinton (1/1) were perfect from the field.

Future Cougar Josh Carlton went 4/10 at the free throw line for UConn. “I’ve got to get back in the gym and work on my free throws,” Carlton said after the game.

The Huskies benefitted from a 25-11 free throw differential. Galen Robinson had six rebounds and four assists on an off-night shooting (1/8).

The 2019 UConn game is UH’s only one on Valentine’s Day during the Kelvin Sampson era. UH beat Tulane in 2009 at home on 2/14 and, before that, had lost four in a row on Valentines, stretching back to 1998.
